Frederick Hugh Sherston "Freddie" Roberts, son of Lord Roberts.
Severely wounded at the battle of Colenso Dec.1899, while attempting to
save British guns from capture, but soon died afterwards. For his
heroic deed he was awarded the Victoria Cross, today displayed at the
National Army Museum in London.

HMS Powerful was the lead ship of her class of two protected
cruisers built for the Royal Navy in the 1890s. She was initially
assigned to the China Station and then provided landing parties which
fought in the Siege of Ladysmith of 1899–1900 during the Second Boer
