workingclasshistory:

On this day, 5 August 1981, after just two days on strike, 11,345 federal air traffic controllers were sacked by US President Reagan (himself a former union leader) for refusing his order to return to work. The workers were banned from federal service for life (lifted over a decade later), their union was legally dissolved later in October, and military air traffic controllers were used as replacements until new hires could be trained.
We had too many anniversaries today to post them here. For all of them, follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/wrkclasshistory https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.296224173896073/1182111585307323/?type=3

Reagan was a shitty person.
