The last pic shows the seat in which the cosmonaut would sit, and would eventually have to bail from and parachute back to the ground, seperate from the spacecraft. It was certainly an interesting way to egress.
I saw this on my mobile and thought it was the space capsule from 2001: a Space Odyssey.
