French Fun Fact
Victor Noir’s penis
Victor Noir, born Yvan Salmon, was a French journalist during the reign of Napoleon the Third, emperor of the French. Noir was then an ardent Republican, which led to his death in 1870.
Following a scalding attack on the Bonaparte name in a Corsican newspaper, a cousin of Napoleon III had one of his letter published in which he fustigated Republicans right back. Mean words were used, the letter ended with “come at me bro”.
Several prominent persons of the newspaper business felt personally attacked by that, including Paschal Grousset, the Corsican-born editor of the Marseillaise Republican newspaper. Grousset sent our protagonist Victor Noir and an associate to immediately challenge the Bonaparte prince to a duel.
As the official story goes, the prince called Noir a tool, Noir slapped him, and the prince shot Noir with a revolver.
After the republic was restored in France, Victor Noir became a minor hero for standing up to the establishment, by getting killed because his boss had been insulted. His body was transfered to the Pere Lachaise cemetary, were a bronze gisant was sculpted for him, featuring a large meaty dick because reasons.
This led to many superstitious people saying that if a woman kisses the statue, rubs its crotch and leave a flower in its hat, she will get a kid/great sex/a husband, possibly not in that order.
Attempts to fence in the statue have all failed so far.
