Slouch Cap of the Irish Volunteers dated to 1914 on display at the National Museum of Ireland-Decorative Arts and History in Dublin
Initially few of the Irish Volunteers had uniforms as each volunteer was expected to acquire one and buy their own rifle. Only in August 1914 did the Irish Volunteers issue a design for a uniform, similar in style to that worn by th eBritish Army. Slouch caps were a cheap and comfortable alternative to the standard military caps of the British Army.
