Here are those sephardic style gravestones that we uncovered during the fist two cemetery clean-up. This laying type of matzevot are not completely exceptional but quite rare here in Hungary, since the community was almost entirely with ashkenazic origin. However the hassidic groups who came to North-East Hungary from Western Ukraine and South Poland, followed sephardic customs (in liturgy as well, for kabbalistic reasons) and they usually had this kind of matzevot.
These tombstones were under the soil for many year before we uncovered them, and now we would like clean them properly and do the research to find out everything about the buried person.
