Scott burgonet

Made c.1915 for France’s military helmet trials, based on the 1901-05 design of French illustrator Georges Scott, based itself on the Mle1872-74 dragoon helmet of which it utilises several parts including the front crest.
~1mm thick steel shell with brass fittings, crest and comb, with a leather lining and a cuir bouilli French cockade.

A prototype helmet introduced when the French army conducted early trials to replace the old red and blue uniform in the early 1900′s, Scott’s burgonet was inspired by Renaissance and modern cavalry helmets. It competed first against Detaille’s similar design and the Reseda cork helmet, and then during the war against the Adrian Mle1915 which ended up getting adopted instead.
