Surcouf (D-621) collision: on 6 June 1971 she cut across the bow of the Soviet tanker General Busharov off the coast of Cartagena. Ten sailors died.
While T 53-class destroyer Tartu (D-636) was trying to help, she broke in two. Her bow sank quickly and her aft part was towed to Toulon. What was left of Surcouf was eventually sunk as a target by an Exocet anti-ship missile after being decommissioned on 5 May 1972.
