The Mardi  Gras Shipwreck

ltwilliammowett:

The “Mardi Gras Shipwreck” sank some 200 years ago about 35 miles off the coast of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico in 1220 metres of water.

Mardi Gras Wreck Site Plan

The shipwreck, whose true identity remains a mystery, lay forgotten at the bottom of the sea until it was discovered in 2002 by an oilfield inspection crew working for the Okeanos Gas Gathering Company.

Left a weapon chest and in the right corner a stove, together bottles and ceramic tableware

Even though there is not much left of the ship, many of the artefacts have survived.

Which can give even more clues about the ship and its mission.

The Gun and the stove

Information suggests that the Mardi Gras shipwreck may date from between
1810 and 1820 and may be a British  gunboat from the War of 1812 or a
British merchant ship.
