Roman Mosaics – Domvs Romana – Rabat

Ancient Roman Mosaics dating back to around the 1st Century BC at the Domvs Romana, an aristocratic town house within what used to be the Roman city of Melite.

Seeing mosaics and frescoes like these, it baffles me how many of the semi-educated think the Romans painted their statues like cheap modern carnival statues. I mean, they clearly understood shading, depth, and gradient. Why would they not paint their statuary the same?
