Glaive Mle1831
The replacement of the sabre briquet of the Napoleonic wars, this gladius-type sword was an evolution of the Mle1816, used by artillery troops as a fascine knife. It was issued to all infantry regiments in 1831 under king Louis-Philippe, being used during during the conquest of Algeria, the Crimean war and the the second French intervention in Mexico, only being replaced with regulars with the introduction of the Mle1866 Chassepot rifle and its yataghan-style sword bayonet.
It had a short heavy diamond-section blade, meant to be used for general utility as well as fighting. Much like other such compromise weapons, it wasn’t very useful in either role.
