People who dog-ear and make marks in their books are 10383738x sexier smarter and cooler than people who act like marking books is a federal crime

I collect rare and antique books. I love them, they are my babies. Most people aren’t even allowed to touch them.

I also own paperbound, and mass produced hardbacks, and I underline and dog ear and leave symbols all over them. And get into arguments with the authors sometimes by writing in the margins.

When my mother died, she left me her library. Walls of mass produced books in pristine condition. There’s nothing sentimental about them, I don’t even know which ones she liked. I could buy another copy of the exact same edition for 10 cents in Amazon’s used book section, and you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

Write in your books. You being the owner is what gives them meaning.

You being the reader is what gives them fleating meaning. Keep a record.

I love my books, and take care of them,
If they have no bus tickets, or foreign bank notes or wine spots in them, I probably only read them once.
