The Battle of Lewisham was fought forty-two years ago today, 5000 cops attempted to force a march of 500 National Front fascists through the London borough of Lewisham.  5000 anti-fascists in Lewisham were not having any of it and fought both the National Front and their police escort, stopping the march from reaching the town centre and forcing the NF to instead hold their rally & speeches in a car park before scurrying back to the trains under a hail of bricks & bottles.

111 people, including 56 police were injured and 214 people arrested in the melee.
