A principle bomber for World War II.  Newer than the B-17, it was a little faster and could carry more bombs.  The wing’s surface area was more than a third less than the B-17.
This resulted in more danger, thus more crew loss, in emergency situations.  Such as ditching in the water, for example.  Also, later, with time, structural problems, to cause
total, catastrophic wing failure.  Despite that, a successful “hauler,” that the Indian Air Force used up until 1968.
