A fragment of a Venetian siege mortar’s large iron bomb, showing one of the ears/handles that helped with loading it, recovered from the ruins of the Parthenon following the 1687 siege of Athens.
The Parthenon had by then turned into a powder store by the occupying Ottomans, which on the 26th of September was ignited by a Venetian mortar shell just like the one above, causing it to be almost entirely destroyed.

The Venetians were just pirates.
