Designed at the Manufactures d’Armes de St-Etienne and Châtellerault c.1855, civilian copy manufactured by Gilles M. L. Moutier-Le Page of the Lepage household name. .69 caliber, twin over-under damascus-pattern barrels, percussion lock. While we can debate the wisdom of French procurement when they decided to issue double-shot dueling pistols to the general staff, there’s no denying that the copies of said gun were a big hit on the civilian market. This particular example is notable in that it uses Lepage’s system featuring a single trigger releasing one hammer at a time consecutively, which is not present on the military model and was exceedingly rare at the time.
