Average Wehraboo interpretation of the Wehrmact vs. How it actually was.
from Robert H Goddard: The Father of Rocketry
It’s always fascinating to read just how behind the Wehrmacht really was on motorization, a consequence of their prussian-style over-reliance on rail that had already bitten them in the ass during the closing days of The Great War.
And at first it was due to lack of trucks, something the French accidentally fixed when they surrendered and the Germans took hold of their entire truck fleet, but by the end of the war the sheet lack of fuel kept them heavily dependent on both rail and horse, and the former wasn’t that reliable either due to constant allied air attacks.
In the entire war the only German unit to be fully motorized was Rommel’s Afrikakorps, and that was mainly because they knew they would never get enough water to keep their horses alive.
Would be alright to mention the German army has not won a war since 1871?
