Rockwell was killed by a fellow Nazi over an internal dispute. The remaining Nazis were the ones to decide what to do with his corpse. Now, Rockwell was a veteran (he had been chaptered out of the Navy for being a Nazi), so he was technically allowed to be buried in a Military Cemetery, so they procured him a spot, however the Government put on a stipulation that no Nazi imagery be present anywhere near the cemetery or the funeral or on the tombstone. The Nazis agreed to this.
However, being Nazis, they disregarded it and flew Swastikas during the funeral procession, causing the local law enforcement to bar them from the cemetery grounds. This stand off goes on for several hours, Rockwell’s hearse being held up on train tracks outside the Cemetery where it is ultimately struck by a passing train, mangling his corpse.
