Lovely Dorothy Wegman, who was discovered in 1926 while she was walking past the New Amsterdam Theatre (Home of the Follies). She was twenty-three when Ziegfeld hired her. “I was a star!” she recalled, “I always felt so much at home on the stage, more so than in real life.” She lived in the Hotel des Artistes building on West 67th St. in New York with her playwright husband Samson Raphaelson for many years. “Ziegfeld was like a father to me” she said fondly.
