USS Menhaden (SS-377), the Navy’s Yellow Submarine.

Menhaden was decommissioned in 1971 and in 1976 she was towed to Washington, stripped of her engines, and painted yellow. There, she was used as a remotely controlled, unmanned acoustic test vehicle by Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station in Keyport. She was capable of submerging to moderate depths where she could be used as a test platform and target to train Trident missile crews off the coast of Washington.
