Algérie was a French heavy cruiser that served during the early years of World War II. One of the last of the so-called “Treaty Cruisers,” she was considered one of the best designs commissioned by any of the naval powers.
She was among the ships scuttled in the scuttling of the French fleet in Toulon.

The scuttling of the French fleet at Toulon was orchestrated by
Vichy France on 27 November 1942 to prevent Nazi German forces from
taking it over. The Allied invasion of North Africa had provoked the
Germans into invading the zone libre, neutral according to the Armistice
of 1940.
