In November, American and British forces invaded French North Africa in Operation Torch; Jean Bart initially helped to resist the attack, engaging in a gunnery duel with the battleship USS Massachusetts before being badly damaged by American dive bombers.
Yet another weird product of the Washington Naval Treaty, alongside the British Nelson-class battleships, and the German Deutschland pocket battleships, which was kinda of a mix of both: Concentrate all your armament in two main turrets, like the Germans, but put all those turrets forward of the bridge, like the British, all to save as much weight as possible.
