Have you seen the contemporary Japanese depiction of Napoléon on St. Helena? It’s brilliant. The Japanese heard of him but the strict isolationist policy of Japan meant their mental image of European clothing and technology is wildly out of date. I had seen that and I actually have a copy here. I can’t remember where I ran across it. It is fascinating and Napoleon doesn’t look so “Napoleon” like!
They do remember what European military fashion looked like pretty well tho :y
